Wegener Business Overview

Koninklijke (Royal) Wegener NV is a leading group specialising in newspapers and multimedia, with its headquarters located in Apeldoorn, and listed on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange.

Wegener is the largest publisher of regional daily newspapers and free door-to-door papers in the Netherlands.

Wegener also produces over 185 free door-to-door papers and weeklies. In addition, Wegener develops and pursues opportunities involving internet products, including websites reaching millions of viewers. Another part of the group provides printed products and graphic services to both Wegener companies and external clients.

Wegener continued to improve the quality of its newspapers. De Twentsche Courant Tubantia introduced a new format for its daily newspaper. Two separate sections for the regional and international news were introduced, the latter produced by the central editorial department in Nijmegen. Focusing only on the regional section, the editorial staff of Tubantia have been able to improve significantly the quality of its regional coverage. Consumers and advertisers are enthusiastic about this improvement. Brabants Dagblad has also been working on a new format for its regional edition in Tilburg. New weekly newspapers were introduced in the Amsterdam and Limburg areas, thus achieving nationwide coverage for Wegener’s free door-to-door newspapers. In February a new quality free weekly was introduced in Rotterdam, called Maasstad Pers. This replaced the Rotterdam free weeklies of PLM and is built on an editorial collaboration with the free daily newspaper De Pers. Presence in the Randstad area was also strengthened thanks to a collaborative venture with De Pers.
