The Netherlands

The Mecom Group’s Dutch division comprises the Wegener (86 per cent. owned by Mecom) and LMG businesses. Wegener is the largest publisher of regional daily newspapers and free door-to-door newspapers in the Netherlands. LMG is the leading regional newspaper business in the Dutch province of Limburg.

With an online portfolio of over 70 newspaper websites, standalone niche websites and 165 hyperlocal websites, the Dutch division at 30 November 2011 had 16.7 million online users per month up from 14.5 million in November 2010. The Dutch division owns nine paid-for dailies and approximately 200 free-sheet titles. The newspaper readership as at 30 November 2011 was 9.8 million per week (2010: 10.5 million) with the decline reflecting the fall of the reach of the daily newspapers due to changing news consumption behaviour and merger or closure of free-sheet titles. The Dutch division operates four print plants that print both the Mecom Group and third-party publications.
